From Radford to MasterChef: Jack Hosking (Class of 2014) chases culinary dream

Posted 07 May, 2026

Jack Hosking (Class of 2014) has built his life around creativity, flavour and the joy that great food brings to others. Whether thinking about his next meal before finishing the current one or recreating ambitious desserts as a child, Jack’s love for cooking has always been unmistakable.

Growing up in Canberra in a family of five, Jack balanced his passion for food with a strong love of sport. He played basketball at a high level, enjoys wakeboarding whenever he can, and remains an avid gym enthusiast.

A lifelong fan of MasterChef Australia, Jack has watched the show for as long as he can remember. At just 11 years old, he famously recreated the show’s iconic Snow Egg dessert at home. He was particularly inspired by former contestant Callum Hann, who showed him that cooking could be both creative and cool.

Now living in South Australia, Jack’s culinary journey has come full circle. Not only has he met his childhood inspiration, but it was with Callum’s encouragement that he finally took the leap to apply for the competition himself — a true pinch-me moment. Judge Poh Ling Yeow may also recognise Jack as one of her biggest fans, with regular visits to her Jam Face stall in Adelaide.

While famous chefs have inspired him professionally, Jack says his greatest inspiration in the kitchen has always been his Nan Shelly, who first taught him how to cook. Following her recent battle with cancer, now thankfully in remission, Jack says it means everything to have her cheering him on as he pursues his dream on the national stage. Alongside his Nan, Jack is supported by his family back home and his partner Liv, all of whom will be proudly following his journey.

Outside the kitchen, Jack is also an entrepreneur, running his own marketing company specialising in social media campaigns while helping manage a catering business. His experience juggling multiple projects, leading teams and performing under pressure has helped prepare him for the intensity of the MasterChef kitchen.

With a love of seafood and a passion for fine dining inspired by chefs such as Hugh Allen and Peter Gilmore, Jack has his sights firmly set on making the most of the competition.

Looking ahead, he dreams of one day opening his own restaurant and hopes his journey will inspire more young men to step into the kitchen, pick up the pans and discover the joy of cooking.

The Radford community wishes Jack every success as he embarks on this exciting next chapter.
