Al CaChino’s Cappuccinos is the newest coffee van on the block in Canberra and was the van parked in the Radford Junior School this week. It will be there every Wednesday for the rest of term. The van is owned and operated by Tim Meier (Class of 2003).

Tim has worked in hospitality for many years and has now opened Al CaChino’s Cappuccinos with his fiancé. He says he loves being able to work in a job where he gets to meet new people every day and he truly believes if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life.

Tim is passionate about family and friends and enjoys meeting and talking to new people on a daily basis. So, if you are on the school grounds on Wednesday, make sure you stop for a chat! Or if you are out and about and see his awesome set up, be sure to grab a coffee and have a chat.

Tim finished school and went on to do an apprenticeship as a locksmith but did not really enjoy it.

“I spent a lot of time by myself, every day was repetitive and the money back then for an apprentice was terrible.”

Tim then started working in a bar to earn a bit of extra cash and loved it. From there he knew he wanted to work in hospitality so he went on to work in a few different bars and cafes, then after a while he started managing them.

Tim, like so many other collegians reports that Year 9 camp was one of his favourite memories and one of the most rewarding things he has ever done, even though it was one of the hardest.

Another great memory he has is of a lesson with Mr Pearsall. “One day in history he had a few of the seniors stage a fight out the front of our classroom. He staged this fight to teach us a lesson that if we were all to recall this fight to someone, everyone’s versions of the fight would be slightly different. Just like events in history might be skewed slightly differently. It was a simple point, but it stuck with me and I’m sure a lot of my other classmates.”

Tim made a lot of friends and had a lot of fun while he was at Radford. “You kind of forget to take that all in when you’re there.”

His advice to current students is: “not to stress the little things, school is important but it’s only a small part of your life, do what makes you happy and have as much fun as you can along the way.”

His childhood dream of being a pilot is definitely off the cards and he actually cannot imagine doing that day in day out, instead he thinks every day in the van will be different and being able to meet and talk to new people on a daily basis will be amazing!
