New mentor program launched

Posted 02 Nov, 2015

MentorMe seeks to provide a means of support and networks for school students and university students embarking on their career pathways.

MentorMe Australia is a free nation-wide mentoring initiative that has been developed by an innovative and enthusiastic group of university students who are committed to developing the next generation of leaders through the process of mentoring. The nine-person MentorMe management team includes three graduates from the Class of 2011, Tom Perfrement (founding Executive Director), Mhairin Hilliker (Marketing Manager) and Bosco Chan (Programs Manager).

MentorMe seeks to provide a means of support and networks for school students and university students embarking on their career pathways. MentorMe assists individuals in their early career stages to set an enduring groundwork leading to future success. To do this:

  • School students are linked with current university students
  • Current university students are partnered with university alumni
  • A MentorMe mentoring relationship will assist individuals to positively transition into their future career

The MentorMe program runs for six months and consists of a number of structured conversations, face-to-face, or via email or phone, during which high school students are informed about their career options and ways to successfully transition to the next phase of their life. After this one-to-one mentoring, participants continue to receive ongoing support, access to MentorMe contacts and networking events. As a not-for-profit organisation, MentorMe is provided at no cost to any participant involved in the program, be they a mentor or mentee.

On Wednesday, 28 October, Mhairin introduced Year 11 and 12 students to MentorMe and encouraged them to visit the website or Facebook page and sign-up to become a mentee. Mhairin concluded her presentation by saying, ‘MentorMe … was established by a group of uni students because we saw a problem, we saw a solution and we want to give you all the chance to get the benefits’.

Let’s get involved: sign up and spread the word about this fantastic opportunity!
