What does life look for you now?

I currently live in Chile and I'm the First Secretary and Consul at the Australian Embassy in Santiago. I've been here since 2015 with my wife and two children. It's interesting work in a variety of areas and my Spanish is now pretty good! I've lived in Nauru, Tonga, Serbia, and now Chile with my job so I've gotten to see a good chunk of the world.

Tell us what you are passionate about?

I'm passionate about my family and promoting Australia and Australian interests around the world. I love travelling, going to new countries and meeting new cultures. I'm a quiz night/trivia tragic and I've recently taken up running and expect to run my first marathon in October 2017.

When you were young, what were you hoping to be when you grew up?

Funnily enough, when I was young I wanted to live overseas and work in an Australian Embassy, so I guess that worked out. It was either that or a physiotherapist.

What is your favourite Radford moment?

I'm not sure I can recall one favourite Radford moment. I could do the copout answer and say Year 9 camp!

How easy was it to decide what to do in life?

Given I wanted to work in the diplomatic field since I was a child (NERD!) and my Year 10 "Career Test" suggested this as well, it's been easy for me to work out what I wanted to do in life. When I started working for DFAT in 2000, it all fell into place!

Did your further study or career go exactly as you'd planned?

Further study no. I started doing a Bachelor of Economics and Asian Studies at ANU, but now have a Bachelor of Arts from Monash. I discovered that the set calendar and timetables of a university were not the best way for me and preferred self-paced learning as I can motivate myself when I need to!

What do you know now, that you wish you'd known when you were at Radford?

That university entrance rank scores aren't everything ?

What advice do you have for current students?

Try many things and fields of interest, they can all relate to your dream career or your dream path in life. As my mother always says, there are many paths to the top of the mountain, but the view is always the same.

Find the path that you are happy with!

Where are you now?
