What does life look for you now?

I’m a professional cyclist for the women’s cycling team Wiggle Honda. I live in Spain for the majority of the year and travel and race around the world. I’ve represented Australia at the London Olympics Games and the Delhi and Glasgow Commonwealth Games I won bronze in the women’s road race at the Delhi Games. I will graduate from my Bachelor of Communication Degree this month, which I studied by distance.

What is your favourite Radford moment?

Probably the cross-country carnivals or year 9 camp.

Do you have a particular role model or inspirational figure from Radford or now?

Not at Radford as such, but I remember always thinking our prefects in year 7 and 8 were so cool and big.

How easy was it to decide what to do in life?

I travelled to Europe to race as a ‘gap’ year before uni and got offered a professional contract while I was there. I feel lucky that I get paid to do what I love and I get to travel the world while doing it.

Did your further study or career go exactly as you'd planned?

Initially, I deferred an Arts/Law degree at ANU and took a gap year to race my bike overseas. At the end of that year I got offered a contract with a professional women’s cycling team based in Europe, so I then decided to do further study through Open University. I have just completed a degree in Communications through Griffith University – all done online. So no, it didn’t go exactly to plan. It was always important to me to make sure I had further education alongside my cycling, so that box is ticked, but I’m considering going back and doing some post graduate study. Maybe I will do the whole law thing after all.

What do you know now, that you wish you'd known when you were at Radford?

There’s more than one way to achieve your goals. If you don’t get the UAI score you need for as course you want to do it’s not the end of the world. I ended up getting a 98.2 (I got 5 points for sporting excellence) and didn’t even need an entrance score for the course I later enrolled in.

What advice do you have for current students?

See above. Keep balanced.

Anything else that you would like to share?

My current team Wiggle Honda has a fantastic website which provides many photos and blogs on my team's racing.

I also have my own website where there are photos and blogs from my cycling career.
