Celebrating Success with Thomas O’Rourke (Class of 2017)

Posted 18 May, 2020

Thomas O'Rourke - a golfing prodigy.

Thomas has recently returned to Canberra from studying at Reedley College, California due to the shutdowns caused by COVID-19.

For the next two years, Thomas will attend the University of the Pacific in California after he secured a significant scholarship to further his golfing career.

This scholarship means that he will have the opportunity to play in the high profile NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) system. It has proven to be the nursery for future stars of the PGA Tour.

At Royal Canberra, they still talk about the day Thomas had one of the greatest rounds ever played at the Yarralumla course – that was in 2018 when he shot a round of 10-under par.

Thomas started playing golf at 11 years of age. At the age of 15 whilst studying at Radford, he decided that his focus would be on maximising his potential as a golfer.

Following University, Thomas has said that he would like to try his luck on a smaller tour, such as the Asian or Australian tours.

Thomas has certainly done enough to indicate his potential. We wish him well with this journey, no doubt he will be very successful.
