Kylie invited the class to visit their store to see how stock is received, shelved and sold.

Year 1 have been exploring ‘How We Organise Ourselves’ and investigating how people work effectively together in the food production process. Kylie Costanzo and  her husband Dom invited Year 1 to visit their store the Barton Grocer to see how stock is received, shelved and sold.

Students had the opportunity to tour the store, seeing all the areas and even restocking the shelves. They also selected items for pizza making and used the checkout to scan these.

1MH had the opportunity to make gnocchi with Uncle Sal as well as learn how the other amazing fresh pasta is made.

Ethan E (second generation Radfordian) asked Uncle Sal “Are you from another country?” To which Uncle Sal replied “Yes, are you?”

1AT tried their hand at floristry and created beautiful posies to take home.

The other children had to make do without roses, as Cody (another second generation Radofordian) selected them all for his mum, “she only likes roses”.

Everyone tested out the items from the coffee bar, enjoying a hot chocolate at the end.

Syd (another second generation Radfordian would you believe?) finally asked the question on everyone’s lips “Does Seb [Kylie’s son] get to steal lollies?”

Kylie  thoroughly enjoyed having Year 1 in the store. “Our regular customers commented on what a great initiative it was and well behaved they all were.”

A huge thanks to the Barton Grocer for letting Year 1 visit!
