What does life look for you now?
I graduated from the ANU and Canberra School of Music with a Bachelor of Laws (hons), a Bachelor of Music and a Post-Graduate Diploma (voice) graduating with the concerto prize and performing Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder with orchestra under the baton of Nicolette Fraillon.
After a decade of performing operatic roles in the United Kingdom, France and Berlin and a Guest Entertainer for P&O World cruises in Antarctica, the Pacific, Indian Ocean and The Black Sea, I have returned to Australia. I am based in Melbourne and artistic partnerships with local artists and companies. I am a regular collaborator and company member of Julie Edwardson’s opera fusion company Emotionworks Cut Opera.
What is your favourite Radford moment?
Musicals at Radford run by Mrs Pitt, Mrs Lander, Mrs Dunn and Mr Huitkar were always the highlight of her year and to be encouraged and mentored by these teachers and performers was a very special opportunity to grow. I am not alone in having enjoyed these productions and remembering all the fun we had in "putting on a show".
Do you have a particular role model or inspirational figure from Radford or now?
Mrs Pitt took my mother aside when I was 15 and suggested that I had a talent for singing that should be nurtured and thus encouraged my parents to let me having singing lessons - Thanks Mrs Pitt!
Also working for many years in the area of opera and classical song, has meant that my love of language and poetry is always being utilised and I think the sparks for this fire were lit by having passionate English teachers and poets on staff, especially memorable were classes by Mr Foulcher and Mr H.
