On Friday, 24 October, Radford College was delighted to welcome back Melissa Garside, (Class of 1994) talented children’s author, who returned to share her newly released books with our Year 2 students.
Melissa captivated the students with her lively storytelling and engaging discussion about the inspiration behind her stories. The children were eager to ask questions about her writing process and loved hearing how her characters and ideas came to life on the page.
Melissa’s debut novel, Lexie Moon & The Word Burgling Bungle follows young inventor Lexie Moon and her gadget, The Vocabuliser. When a notorious thief seizes her invention, leaving people speechless, Lexie must race against time to retrieve it.
Her latest novel picks up Lexie’s inventive spirit and launches it even further into orbit. In Lexie Moon & The Space Day Disaster, Lexie joins her school’s Stargazing Club only to discover they never actually stargaze. Determined, she builds “The Stellascope” to make daytime star-gazing possible.
It was a wonderful opportunity for our young readers to connect with a local author and be inspired by the joy of reading and creativity. We thank Melissa for taking the time to visit and for sharing her passion for storytelling with our students.
